WHO ARE THE "REPUBLICANS" BACKING OBAMA?

(Hint: What they all have in common is that they are anti-Israel)

From "The American Thinker" comes this opinion piece about Obama's new "Republican" backers:

Obama's GOP roster share anti-Israel views (updated)
Ed Lasky

Barack Obama claims that he is a post-partisan politician and promises he will work well with Republicans. This is contrary to his history in the Senate to date and also flies in the face of the National Journal, which found him to be the most liberal member of the Senate.

In any case, he does try to sprinkle a few Republicans about him to burnish his credibility -- which these days needs a lot of burnishing. In any case, there also seems to be a common theme among the Republicans that support Barack Obama: they have anti-Israel views.

PROBLEM: HOW TO DETONATE WOULD-BE SUICIDE BOMBERS LOADED WITH EXPLOSIVES

Heat rays or microwaves? Remotely exploding explosives via microwaves. This was a technique used in a comic book by Batman who remotely detonated explosives floating in the harbor of Gotham City.

Farfetched? Not so far fetched as you might think. Look below:

***

"For example, directed energy may permit small elements to destroy targets they could not attack with conventional energy weapons. Directed energy may permit the achievement of EMP (electromagnetic pulse) effects without a nuclear blast. Research in superconductivity suggests the possibility of storing and using large quantities of energy in very small packages. Technologically, it is possible that a very few soldiers could have the same battlefield effect as a current brigade."

Is anybody working on this? It may prevent a lot of grief and remove undesirables at the same time.

P.S. Could such directed energy be used to explode IEDs?

Is Israel a "Safe Haven" for Jews?

Barak: Invasion of Gaza won't stop rocket attacks

[quote]

Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA:

If Israeli forces did go into Gaza, Barak said, "afterward we would have to
achieve a truce, and we would have to deal with the same parties as before."

"Even if Israeli forces stay there two years and destroy the Hamas regime
down to the last office and the last activist, in the aftermath [Israel] is
controlling another people against their will, and the Palestinian people,
when they compare the two, will choose Hamas ... and not those who talk
peace," he said, referring to the moderate Fatah, headed by President
Mahmoud Abbas.

That's "talk peace" - not "make peace".

And Barak believes that if Israel destroys Hamas that the Palestinian street
will choose Hamas over Fatah.

Does he think that the Palestinian street will choose Fatah over Hamas if
Israel allows Hams to continue and grow stronger?

Question: What does Mr. Barak think should be the primary objective of the
Government of Israel (hint: he is minister of "defense").

Ehud Barak apparently thinks that the primary objective of the Government of
Israel is to get the Palestinian public to support Fatah.

And while he himself demonstrated in his failed negotiations with Arafat
that it is hardly a foregone conclusion that even a deal that includes
reckless Israeli concessions will satisfy the Palestinians, it would also
appear that he accepts the assertion that a necessary condition of any
Israeli strategy/plan is that it ultimately leads to the creation of a
sovereign Palestinian state come-what-may.

But is it indeed reasonable to insist that a necessary condition of any
Israeli strategy/plan is that it ultimately leads to the creation of a
sovereign Palestinian state come-what-may?

A sovereign Palestinian state is at best a "means" rather than and "ends"
for Israel.

Israel has goals: survival, development, Olmert's goal that Israel be "a fun
place to live in", etc.

One may think that a sovereign Palestinian state would help Israeli attain
these goals, but it isn't itself a goal.

Back to the Gaza Strip.

Barak now argues that it doesn't matter how strong Hamas gets now as a
result of their exploitation of the ceasefire because even before the
ceasefire (thanks to the smuggling that has taken place since Israel's
retreat from Gaza) "Everyone knows that when the truce was declared, there
were already hundreds of Grad missiles there."

Again - that's Defense Minister Ehud Barak. A man boasting a military
career. Saying with a straight face that there is no difference between
Hamas having hundreds of missiles that can reach as far as Ashkelon and
Hamas having thousands that can reach Ashkelon and hundreds that can reach
Ashdod and beyond. Not to mention an army that has been able to exploit the
ceasefire to openly engage in large scale training exercises, build
fortifications, underground launching position, dig tunnels, extensively
plant mines and otherwise transform the Gaza Strip into a giant killing
field against Israeli troops.

By the way - does the fact that Hamas already has " hundreds of Grad
missiles" in the Gaza Strip weigh in as an argument that Israel should wake
up and do something already, or, as DM Barak seems to contend - as an
argument for Israel to surrender?

What is really going on?

Is this really what Mr. Barak thinks or is he simply jockeying for a
position on the Left end of the Israeli political spectrum in anticipation
of elections?

One thing is clear: Mr. Barak has sent a message to the world that the
ongoing smuggling into Gaza and strengthening of the Hamas army isn't really
a big deal as far as Israel's Minister of Defense is concerned.

And if Defense Minister Barak doesn't give a damn - why should the world?

Expect the same with regard to Hezbollah in the north.

Barak: Invasion of Gaza won't stop rocket attacks
By Haaertz Service and News Agencies Last update - 21:23 10/08/2008
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1010195.html

Defense Minister Ehud Barak admitted Sunday that even a large-scale Israel
Defense Forces invasion of Gaza would not stop militant attacks on Israel,
saying he would prefer to see the current truce remain in place.

Barak has often said that an Israeli invasion is nearing, but in an
interview with Channel 10 TV, he indicated even a large-scale invasion would
not stop Hamas rocket attacks. Instead, he said, a seven-week-old
Egyptian-mediated truce is effectively halting the barrages.

If Israeli forces did go into Gaza, Barak said, "afterward we would have to
achieve a truce, and we would have to deal with the same parties as before.

Hamas overran Gaza last June, expelling forces loyal to Abbas.

Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005, withdrawing its military and taking down
21 settlements, expressing the hope at the time that its pullout would end
the rocket fire.

However, according to Israeli military figures, more than 6,000 rockets and
mortars have been fired from Gaza at Israel since the disengagement.

Barak said the Israel-Hamas truce, which began June 19, has reduced rocket
fire from Gaza from hundreds to just a few. He said he hoped the truce would
last a year.

Before the June truce, Palestinian militants pelted southern Israel daily,
sometimes with dozens of rockets and mortars, disrupting the lives of tens
of thousands of Israelis.

Many have clamored for an Israeli invasion to stop the barrages, and Barak
frequently announces that such a ground operation will occur in just a
matter of time.

In the past, Israel has sent ground troops into Gaza to stop rocket attacks,
but the relief has been temporary. Despite inflicting heavy casualties and
causing severe damage, Israeli forces were able to stop the rocket fire only
as long as they were in Gaza.

Barak said the truce was the first time in seven years that the rocket
salvos have been silenced.

Israel has blockaded Gaza since the Hamas takeover, citing security, closing
crossings and allowing only the minimal humanitarian supplies in. Egypt has
closed Rafah, the only Gaza crossing that does not go through Israel.

In another shift, Barak said that the reported strengthening of Hamas
through arms smuggling during the truce is not a problem for Israel, though
four tons of explosives and several dozen anti-tank rockets have been
brought in.

"Everyone knows that when the truce was declared, there were already
hundreds of Grad missiles there," he said, referring to rockets that can
reach the southern city of Ashkelon, as well as simpler rockets and mortars.

During the interview, Barak also said the 2006 Second Lebanon War - in
effect, carried out to stop Hezbollah armament - had actually strengthened
the Lebanon-based militant group.

The defense minister said the the six years prior to the war had actually
been some of the quietest on Israel's northern border, despite the growth in
Hezbollah's military capabilities.

"Sharon and his leadership were wise not to respond to Hezbollah's
strengthening," Barak said. "We went to war unprepared and unjustified."

In regard to Israel's renewed talks with Syria, Barak said that the two
sides have very different agendas, which makes it "impossible to conduct
serious negotiations. They have interests in Lebanon and the interest of the
Assad family is to stay in power and only then go after the Golan Heights
issue.

Barak also discussed Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni's chance of becoming the
next prime minister, despite her lack of experience in military defense.

"There can be a prime minister without a defense background. The question is
just whether it is wise to do so. This disadvantage we saw two years ago,"
he said, in reference to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

ANCIENT JEWISH HISTORY IN IRAN

[excerpt]

Ironically enough, Ahmadinejad’s shortcomings are most evident in his understanding of his own civilisation and here especially Iran’s intimate historical encounters with Judaism. A few lessons in theology are enough to see that the Bible is dotted with praise for ancient Persia and its imperial masters. The Old Testament describes the Persian king Cyrus the Great, as God’s anointed and chosen ruler because it was he who gave refuge to the Jews when they were persecuted by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar in the sixth century B.C. These actions also explain why Cyrus is mentioned in the Torah as a saint and saviour of the Jewish people.

Indeed one of his successors to the Persian throne, Xerxes I (Artaxerxes), married a Jewish woman, Esther, the daughter of one of his ministers. The tomb of Esther in the north-Western Iranian city of Hamadan (originally called Ecabatana) draws Jewish pilgrims from all over Iran, especially during the holiday of Purim (the walls of the building explain the origins of Esther in Hebrew).

Postscript:
(Added by me hours later)
[Also read my comment under "Comments" below]

After reading beyond this seemingly innocuous retelling of how the pre-Islamic Perisan Kings were kinder to Jews than the rest of the nations, the article gets stuck on differentiating between antisemitism and anti-Zionism. The only Jews who do not want a Jewish homeland now are those who believe that G-d has to have a hand in the creation of a Jewish State, that Moshiach need come and then there shall be ingathering of the exiles, etc.*, such as the Neturei Karta and the like.

Any Jew living anywhere in the world where there exists Jew-hatred--and show me a place where the Jew is accepted, wholly, and genuinely--has to be meshugge (nuts) not to want a safe haven established for any Jew who needs such an asylum: viz. A Jewish State.

As for distinguishing between anti-Zionism and antisemitism there is no better distinction made than that by Dr. Martin Luther King:

"Anti-Zionism = Anti-Semitism"
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

". . . You declare, my friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist.' And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth.
"Antisemitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agreement. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently antisemitic, and ever will be so.

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land. The Jewish people, the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy Land. From this they were expelled by the Roman tyrant, the same Romans who cruelly murdered Our Lord. Driven from their homeland, their nation in ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish people time and again suffered the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule over them.

"The Negro people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the torment of tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa have begged, pleaded, requested--DEMANDED the recognition and realization of our inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own country.

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfilment of God's promise, that his People should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land.

This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less.

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is antisemitism.

"The antisemite rejoices at any opportunity to vent his malice. The times have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a hatred of the Jews. This being the case, the antisemite must constantly seek new forms and forums for his poison. How he must revel in the new masquerade! He does not hate the Jews, he is just 'anti-Zionist'!

"My friend, I do not accuse you of deliberate antisemitism. I know you feel, as I do, a deep love of truth and justice and a revulsion for racism, prejudice, and discrimination. But I know you have been misled--as others have been--into thinking you can be 'anti-Zionist' and yet remain true to these heartfelt principles that you and I share.

Let my words echo in the depths of your soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--make no mistake about it."

IS OBAMA A RACIST?

Candidate Obama is by all the evidence of his own words an anti-Caucasian racist who has hoodwinked his adulating followers and will betray them--Christians as well as Jews--as as surely as day follows night.

Obama and Israel’s Ruling Elites*

Prof. Paul Eidelberg

"What takes the place of experience in Obama is his fluency or glibness. Infatuated with his own oratory, his demagogic slogan CHANGE, like his stupefying chant YES WE CAN, appeals to youth, to people lacking knowledge of the adamant and harsh realities of international politics, people mindless of history and the enormity of evil confronting civilization."

"The (incremental) exodus of 100,000 to 200,000 Jews from Judea and Samaria will demoralize the country. How many Jews will want to remain in this country? How many Jews will make aliya to a country now more than ever exposed to missile attacks like Sderot?"

--from the following report by Paul Eidelberg

Part I: Obama

1. Senator Barack Obama uttered the dumbest statement of the century: “My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.”

2. Obama recently said in Berlin that he speaks not only as an American citizen, but as a “citizen of the world.” Is Obama in truth a patriotic American? After all, he refrained from putting his hand on his heart when the Pledge of Allegiance was recited in public.

3. In Dreams of My Father, he wrote: “I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.” This suggests that Obama is an anti-Caucasian “citizen of the world.”

4. In the same book Obama said: “I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.” Further evidence that this “citizen of the world” may be a closet racist. For 20 years he attended the “God-damn-America” sermons of Jeremiah Wright.

5. In Audacity of Hope Obama wrote: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” It seems Obama never learned that Muslims—to say nothing of blacks—were preeminent in the African slave trade.

6. In his whirlwind visit to Israel, Obama revealed abysmal ignorance of the region. Alluding to the Six-Day War of 1967, when Israel, in a war of self-defense, gained or regained Judea, Samaria, and the Golan Heights. Obama admitted to Jerusalem Post editor David Horowitz that Israel might justify retaining parts of this land as a security buffer, but, he added, “[the Israelis] got to consider whether getting that buffer is worth the antagonism of the other party.”

7. In these words Obama revealed his fallacious assumption that the core of the Israel-Arab conflict is territorial, not ideological. He dismisses stark evidence that a large majority of the Arab Palestinians refuse to accept Israel’s existence in any borders. A majority of these Arabs supports suicide attacks against the Jews. They believe that to die when killing Jews is the greatest good! The Quran exalts the Muslim who “slays and is slain” for Allah (Sura 9:111).

8. What shall we say of Arabs who use their children as human bombs? Daniel Pipes said it would take at least two generations to overcome the murderous hatred of these Arabs. Is Obama unaware of former Muslims like Syrian-born Dr. Wafa Sultan, Sudanese-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Egyptian-born Nonie Darwish who denounced Islam as uncivilized?

9. Obama has chosen Middle East advisers like Zbigniev Brzezinski and Lee Hamilton who trivialize the theological nature of the Islamic threat confronting the United States. Like any see-no-evil, hear-no-evil, and speak-no-evil pundit, he is incapable addressing, realistically, the dangerous consequences of a precipitous American retreat from Iraq and the threat of a nuclear Iran. Despite five years of futile negotiations with Iran, he advocates a Chamberlain approach to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Hitler of Tehran.

10. Posing as a “realist,” however, he would have the U.S. refocus on Afghanistan rather than on Iraq. Hs preoccupation with imagery has trivialized his mentality. Unlike Afghanistan, a poor, landlocked nation, Iraq has enormous oil resources and overlooks the sea lanes of the Persian Gulf. If Iraq were to fall apart by a premature US withdrawal, Iran would step in, and an axis of evil would be formed encompassing Iran, Iraq, Syria, and a Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon.

11. Does this would-be president understand that a nuclear-armed Iran would dominate the Middle East as well as pacifist Europe on which the economy and way of life of the United States ultimately depend? But what is to be expected of a neophyte who has been in the Senate only since 2005, and has spent most of 2007 and 2008 running for president? His lack of experience in national and in international affairs makes him unfit to be President of the United States, the most complex decision-making office on planet earth.

12. What takes the place of experience in Obama is his fluency or glibness. Infatuated with his own oratory, his demagogic slogan CHANGE, like his stupefying chant YES WE CAN, appeals to youth, to people lacking knowledge of the adamant and harsh realities of international politics, people mindless of history and the enormity of evil confronting civilization,

13. An Obama presidency would be a disaster for America and Israel.

Part II: Israel’s Ruling Elites

1. In June 2005, Ehud Olmert told a New York audience: “We, we are tired of being courageous … we are tired of defeating our enemies, we want … them to be our friends …” No wonder Israel suffered a fiasco a year later in the Second Lebanon War!

2. Olmert’s folly reminds us of Shimon Peres, who once said that by withdrawing from Judea and Samaria, Israel will have more Ph.D.s per square kilometer—yes, and more idiots per square kilometer. Proof: Mr. Peres applied for Israel’s membership in the Arab League!

3. That Olmert is Israel’s prime minister and that Peres is Israel’s president is indicative of a country suffering from a terminal disease, as I will now show in another way.

4. According to sections 97, 99 and 100 of Israel Penal Law, any official that surrenders or expresses the intention to surrender Jewish land is prima facie guilty of treason. This implicates Israel’s last six prime ministers and dozens of cabinet minister. Yet no Knesset member has formally petitioned the Attorney General to have any of these officials indicted for treason. A commentary on the intellectual integrity of MKs who pose as “Zionists.”

5. Surely, these politicians could at least demand the abrogation of the Oslo or Israel-PLO Agreement. They know the PLO has violated this agreement countless times. What proof is needed after PLO chief Yasser Arafat openly waged war against Israel in September 2000—a war that has resulted in the murder and maiming of thousands of Jews by PLO terrorists. Yet Israel’s reputedly rightwing politicians have not called for the abrogation of Oslo!

6. Unless reputedly Zionist parties like the Likud, Mafdal (the National Religious Party), National Union, Israel Beiteinu publicly demand the abrogation of Oslo and reject an Arab Palestinian state, it is futile to call for their forming a united bloc to liberate Israel from the tyranny of the Left.

7. These same parties signed the coalition agreement of the 2003 Sharon Government, which bound them to Oslo. None has displayed the courage of their Zionist convictions, else they would not support the idea of submitting the fate of the Golan Heights and of Judea and Samaria to a national referendum. Besides, since when does a majority—even if it amounted to more than 80 percent have the right to violate the unalienable rights of a minority?

8. How can any Zionist with a stitch of integrity support a referendum that might result in the loss of Jewish land? If Jews dedicated to Eretz Israel lose in that referendum, the government will have a democratic license to order soldiers to expel men, women, and children from their homes, and the timid and heartless among these soldiers will obey.

9. The (incremental) exodus of 100,000 to 200,000 Jews from Judea and Samaria will demoralize the country. How many Jews will want to remain in this country? How many Jews will make aliya to a country now more than ever exposed to missile attacks like Sderot?

10. As Jews leave, the percentage of Israel’s Arab citizens will increase. The democratic principle of one adult-one vote will bring more subversive Arabs into the Knesset. A national referendum, therefore, could be the coffin of the Jewish state. How ironic that this may happen under the façade of democracy!
