You were right on the problema, just do not focus much on pronunciating the vowels. No, is "não", like in English but with with a soft and rapid "a" in the middle, but you could want to pass for a Northern Portuguese and just say it as the Galegos write it: "Non". Tegno is written tenho but it's almost said in the same way.

"As for disliking an entire people, I have never beeen tempted to do that."

I didn't say I disliked all Jews. I'd try this example for you to understand: I've met many Africans through my life, I've even befriended some, still, I do not reckon them as Portuguese, even if they have the ID card, or play in the National Football Team. And, to be truthfull, I don't want them here because I think they influentiate the country in a negative way.
Of course they are good people, and they would be wellcome to stay a while here, but, unfortunately, they are here colonising us, even if they do not realise it themselves.

I'll thus be waiting for your return, just don't think I'll answer right after your eventual answer.Afonso Henriqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17337052330672681364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749130392822699669.post-76946508376512509402010-03-03T23:01:31.479-08:002010-03-03T23:01:31.479-08:00Afonso Henriques:
No, no no! You are not evil! ...Afonso Henriques:

No, no no! You are not evil! At least, I do not consider you so, based on your writings.

I do not feel bad (except that right now, I have contracted a flu-like cough--and that is why I have to make this response short, but will be back, never fear, ready for a discussion that I will keep civil and devoid of hate, racism, etc.)

I do not have a problem. (No tengo problema. I regret that my Portuguese is not on a par with my Spanish, but I did not badly using my Spanish and whatever Portuguese I had when conversing with a Brazilian gentleman [now sadly deceased] about the politics pf Brazil.)

As to criticism of the Jews, I have critcised the Jews of the Left as much as--if not more than--you, my dear Afonso.

As for disliking an entire people, I have never beeen tempted to do that. I have met Jews that I liked and Jews that I did not like. I have met non-Jews (gentiles--people of the nations other than that of the Jews) whom I liked and others whom I did not like.

As for Portugal, never fear, I have no intention of ever living there and disturbing the its inhabitants. As for the skin color of the Portuguese, I had a Venezuelan acquaintance who brought the most lovely Portuguese lady to our business meeting--the color of golden orange, of which you spoke.

In cooler climes, the white skin of Europeans can turn pink, with the reddish cheeks (especially in children).

As much as I would like to continue, at this time, I must leave off for now. But I will be back, soon, I hope, and will look for you here to pick up this discussion.urbanadder22https://www.blogger.com/profile/08110191117321445265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749130392822699669.post-74044181396249597722010-03-03T16:34:37.729-08:002010-03-03T16:34:37.729-08:00P.S. - about the whiteness of the Jews and the pin...P.S. - about the whiteness of the Jews and the pink...

You brought me funny memories. First, as I am never pink or reddish, unless I am not emotionally well (when I blush because I am going to explode or because I am extremely umbarassed), or phisical well (I'm sick and can get more red, especial when I get too hot) than I'm probabily more brown than anything.
Especially when I get sun tanned before my skin falls. When ir falls, it gets into a gorgeaus golden-orange that is indeed my favourite skin colour in women.
You know the great Brazilian song:

"Girl of the Golden Body
From Ipanema's Sun
Her balancing
Is more than a poem
Is the most beautifull thing
I've seen passing by".

Of course I do. So, when I talk of whiteness, it is racial. But more than racial it is Civilisational. I also said that I considered Bosniaks as non Europeans.

Now the fun thing. I remember seeing a football match with a friend. He claimed that Southern Europeans were whiter than the English.

"Look! They are not white! Look at them, they are pink like the pigs. They truly are pigs, they're not white!"

It was funny.Afonso Henriqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17337052330672681364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8749130392822699669.post-9149979274788321422010-03-03T16:26:53.625-08:002010-03-03T16:26:53.625-08:00It's the evil Afonso!
I've read your words...It's the evil Afonso!
I've read your words. And I want to ask you something: What do you want?
Seriously, what is your problem and what do you want? I didn't quiet get it.
I understand that you were feeling bad, being a victim and such. I agree that it is not pleasent to see our group being criticised. But seriously, what do you want?

I am sure that if you want, we can talk about it reasonably. I'd very much like to understand you a little bit more.

.................................

Now, I will kind of defending myself:

"it's not that I don't like Jews. I truly never met any. But my impression is that they for sure did not fit in here in the past, and I don't want them to come here again"

It's true. What's wrong in that? They did not fit, it was a fact. Before, during and after the Renconquista, the society was deeply divided into ethno-religious quartes and it sometimes proved painfully to *all* comunities.
I do believe that the expulsion of Jews was indeed benefical for both, Christians and Jews. Don't you?

Concerning the Jewish blogs, I didn't knew the one from Galiza.
I know the one from Portugal, Rua da Judiaria, and I don't like it. Well, I do apreciate it and visit it from times to times because I consider it the view of the Portuguese Jews.
But the content of the site is too Jewish in which it is too leftist and ethno centrical, painting always the Jews as good and the Portuguese or other Europeans as bad.

And do you know what the name of the blog means? Rua da Judiaria means Judiaria's street.
During the muslim period until the expulsion of the Jews, every main city had a Judiaria.

Judiaria in Portuguese can also be translated literally as "Jewish thing".
Still today, Judiaria is synonym as a bad attitude, or a bad thing:
Actions that go around with selfishness, being a traitor, lacking morals, being attached to money... all these can be qualified as "Judiarias", or "Jewish Things".

Concerning the Mocidade Portuguesa, they did not do the "Hitler's salute". They did the Roman salute.
And I would very much like to have a society nowadays like the mocidade Portuguesa (without the violence because during those times it was normal for teachers to beat their students. Although today, some students attack the teachers.), where they would teach the children History, Good Manners, Good Vallues, Religion and Patriotism.Afonso Henriqueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17337052330672681364noreply@blogger.com
